Join us for an evening of discussion about the challenges and opportunities of building climate resilient communities.  We will review the experiences of Maplewood, as well as consider concerns specific to Stillwater, such as flooding of the river and related erosion.  Learn what communities can do to plan for climate change and practical actions they can take to advance resilience.

City of Maplewood

Shann Finwall has worked with the City of Maplewood for 21 years.  Over the last 14 years as the Environmental Planner coordinating the City’s sustainability efforts including implementing the GreenStep Cities’ best practices, and Climate and Energy goals.  Maplewood has participated in the GreenStep Cities program since December 2010, being recognized with the Step Five award for completing high-impact best practices and showing improvement in those as demonstrated through the yearly performance metrics.  Most recently the City completed a Climate Adaptation Plan.  The strategies and actions contained in the plan will increase Maplewood's resilience to climate impacts and help the City prioritize sustainable uses of land and water, reduce waste, and support improved equity and livability.

Ted is a registered architect, sustainability consultant, and climate action planner with over 27 years of experience.  As an architect, Ted an expertise in public sector architecture with over 60 City/County facilities nationally.  Ted provides project specific as well as community level consulting on Net Zero, renewable energy, and overall sustainability of our built environment.  As a sustainability and climate planning consultant, he has an expertise in delivering community climate vulnerability assessments, greenhouse gas inventories, and Climate Action and Adaptation Plans.  His recent experience includes over 50 assessments and mitigation/adaptation efforts for communities across the United States.   Ted is also a national solar pv technical expert for the US Department of Energy.  His work with the DOE includes technical assistance for community driven solar projects nationally as well as serving as a national solar technology trainer for architects and engineers.

Founded in 2014, paleBLUEdot’s mission is to hasten the transition to a carbon free economy.  Their work spans 21 States and the territory of Puerto Rico.
