Making Art for Social Change

Making Art for Social Change Online

It takes all kinds to change the world for the better, and we’ve all got different skills to bring to table.  In this class we will look at different forms of art commonly used to get people to rally around a common cause: painting, printing, and text art.  Examples from history and contemporary movements will be shown to draw inspiration and illustrate techniques. Our teaching artists will discuss and demonstrate some basic elements of strong graphic design which help the legibility and volume of this kind of art.  We will cover ideas of shape, form, contrast, and voice as we chat and help each other create work which will help champion causes we feel passionate about.
Technical demonstrations will include:
-sign painting techniques
-basic drawing skills/ drawing transfer skills using a grid technique
-guerilla printmaking techniques which will allow us to create postcards in multiples so we can communicate about our messages with our friends and community leaders.
