Nonfiction Book Club
Please join us in launching a brand new book club. Interested readers will discuss nonfiction titles four times during the year. Dig in, branch out and enjoy talking books with members of the Stillwater Library community. No tests, no book reports! Come for any or all discussions, no need to commit to all gatherings.
For the first meeting in March, a single book is selected: The Heartbeat of Wounded Knee: Native America from 1890 to the Present by David Treuer. This book is a finalist for the 2019 National Book Award and was named a best book of 2019 by The New York Times, TIME, The Washington Post, The New York Public Library and more. "Chapter after chapter, it's like one shattered myth after another." ~NPR

Check out our topics for the August, October and January Nonfiction Book Club gatherings:
August 2020: Travel Theme
We will move in a lighter direction and dream of new destinations or favorite places as we explore travel-related titles. We will read on this theme and provide a few book ideas but no required titles.
October 2020: We The Corporations: How American Businesses Won Their Civil Rights by Adam Winkler
For the fall election season, we will focus impartially on some history of Supreme Court — corporate rights. Our media isn’t offering to take us through the weeds here; this is something to look at with the help of qualified historians. Who were and currently are the key corporate players in our American landscape? How did they establish the place and rights that they have today? This one is a long book, check one out early!
January 2021: Our Towns and Our Cities Theme
Let’s talk about the lay of our land – urban vs. rural, metropolitan vs. small towns. Who lives where, what sustains them, what crises present themselves, what is seen as hopeful? We will read on this theme and provide book ideas but no required titles.
