Everyday Engineering: Earthquake Simulation

Did you know that the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) shares data used to monitor earthquakes in the US as part of its Earthquake Hazards Program? You can view the latest earthquakes with a magnitude of 2.5 or greater from the previous day on their website: USGS Earthquake Monitoring. This week, you will learn more about how to explore current, real-world issues to practice identifying solutions and ways to test your solutions. This week includes building structures with LEGO bricks to test in the earthquake simulation activity. Supplies will be provided. Senior student volunteers will lead this engineering-focused series at R.H. Stafford Library in partnership with Minnesota Roots and Circuits.

Registration required. This series is focused for students grades 5-8 (ages 10-14). Due to space and supply limitations only attendees and library partners may be in the space. We encourage grown-ups and siblings who wish to stay nearby to browse the library collection or explore other areas of our library during this time.
