Native Plants: Harvesting, Cleaning and Storing
Discover techniques for harvesting a variety of native plant seeds, including how to identify when seed heads or pods have reached optimal dryness for collection. Learn step-by-step methods for cleaning seeds—such as removing chaff, separating viable seeds, and preventing mold—and explore best practices for storing them to preserve viability for future use. This session also includes an introduction to winter sowing, a method of starting native seeds outdoors during the colder months to mimic natural germination cycles and encourage strong, resilient growth in the spring.
The instructors for this class will be Chris Bremer and Diane Clavel.
This class is presented in partnership with River Market Community Co-op and the Washington County Master Gardeners.
