Exploring the Arts: 1939, The Greatest Year in the History of Cinema

Fans of old movies overwhelmingly agree that 1939 was the peak year of classic Hollywood. In this presentation, we will look at more than a dozen films released that year, with special attention (of course) to The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind. We will also consider how the making of these films was influenced by world history and the history of technology.
