How to See Like an Artist
Registration opens Monday, July 21 at 2 pm.
Local teen artist, Sophia, will lead this class series in walking through the process of creating a traditional graphite still life drawing, retraining your eye to see like an artist. You'll learn to see beyond outlines and traditional drawing conventions opening your eyes, allowing you to draw anything you wish. This course will cover topics such as: how to create an interesting composition, negative vs positive space, proportions, shading, values, applying value principles, how to thoughtfully critique art, and applying finishing touches to your art.
Registration required. This course is for artists in middle and high school (ages 11-18). Participants are expected to be present for all four days, there is no "How to see like an artist" class on Tuesday, August 12. No prior skills are needed, you just need to be able to hold a pencil. Due to space limitations, only attendees and library partners may be in the space. We encourage grown-ups and siblings who wish to stay nearby to browse the library collection or explore other areas of our library during this time.
