Tween Speech and Debate Workshop (Level 2)

Join R.H. Stafford Library for a five-week level 2 speech and debate course for students in grades 5-8 with Lightwave Learning.

Beginners to speech and debate are welcome in this level two course. However, introductory concepts will be quickly reviewed, and more in-depth aspects of argument-making and debate will be the focus of the series.

In this engaging course, students will step into the shoes of lawmakers, politicians, and advocates as they delve into public speaking and debate. Through the program, they will be introduced to skills in critical thinking, persuasive argumentation, and effective rhetoric through hands-on activities, including speaking drills, interactive games, and mini-debates. Early engagement in this competitive activity fosters vital skills for future leaders.

Grades 5-8, registration is required. Participants are expected to be present for all five weeks. Due to space limitations, guardians and siblings are not able to be in the room during the program. We recommend exploring other areas of the library or local businesses.
