Exploring the Arts: Translating Painting into Poetry

Exploring the Arts: Translating Painting into Poetry

Since at least the time of the ancient poet Homer, writers have been trying to translate works of visual art into words. There’s even a Greek term for it: ekphrasis, which has its own Wikipedia page. In this presentation, we will pair up images of art with poetry written about them, then consider how each poem illuminates and responds to each painting or sculpture.
