Valley Reads Book Discussion: The House of Broken Angels

Valley Reads Book Discussion: The House of Broken Angels

Join us at the library for a discussion about the 2024 Valley Reads book title. Luis Alberto Urrea will return to the Valley and we will encourage people to read The House of Broken Angels in which Big Angel, the family's patriarch is dying and everyone is gathering for one more big birthday party! This is not a novel about death as much as it is a story about living. The major themes for this year are grief, rituals for marking time, and borders. The major theme: "Finding Joy in the Midst of Sorrow" provides opportunities to build on programs and connections made during programming around Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant?

In 2024, ArtReach St. Croix is returning to its roots for Valley Reads, a month-long one book, one community program. After nine years of focusing programming around NEA Big Read titles, this year we are taking a deeper dive into some of the themes, authors and artists that have been featured during the Big Read.
